Youth in Prisons in Russia
Support for Youth at Detention Centres and Correctional Facilities
This project raises funds to support education, recreation, psychological, spiritual and other intervention programs for young offenders at detention centres and correctional facilities.
Youth do not have to give up their rights to education, recreation and other activities while they are detained or incarcerated. Our goal is to continue supporting programs that are geared towards rehabilitation of these young people and their consequent reintegration into communities.
In Russia, we have partnered with Alexander Gezalov, the social activist and expert on the social orphanhood, who has experience in working with the juvenile delinquents. Mr. Gezalov along with like-minded individuals visit youth, provide them school supplies and sports equipment, and even play soccer with them. They also help to build the smaller chapels at detention centres where young people can pray.
Children living behind closed doors, away from their families and often without external oversight, depend on the goodwill of those in charge and are among the most isolated and invisible young people in society.
Please join us in providing hope to young people behind the bars. Even though they are deprived of liberty and other basic needs, it does not mean they have to feel social detachment, loneliness and absence of the care and love. They still rely on our support, even more now than before.
