People have been playing checkers for thousands of years. A board resembling the modern checkerboard was found in ancient Mesopotamia as far as 3000 BC. The game was also mentioned by Homer. It was also said that checkers have been played during the Trojan War. The Romans played a derivation of the game called the game of Little Soldiers. Guys from the Youth Club “Fakel” in 2016 are keeping up with this great tradition. They organized a checkers championship inside the “Fakel” walls, and many children and young adults showed their interest. The good old chess was also included. The winners took prizes home.

Here are some photos from today’s game.
